Police were notified of the death around 7 a.m. Saturday after the mother woke up at the America Best Value Inn in Stamford and found her small daughter was not breathing.
The mother, 25-year-old Bethany Broyles of Elizabethton, Tenn., immediately called 911, said Sgt. Paul Guzda.
When officers arrived on the scene, Officer Keli Reynolds immediately began CPR on the child before she was transported to Stamford Hospital where she was pronounced dead, he added.
“We found nothing suspicious,” Guzda. "The medical examiner performed an autopsy and found nothing suspicious. Now we are waiting on toxicology and other reports."
The baby’s parents, Broyles, and Cody Dyals, 26, stopped in Stamford on their way to Maine around 3 a.m. Saturday, Guzda said.
"The mother said the entire family had recently been sick with a flu-like illness but she thought the baby had recovered completely," he added.
Guzda said the family remained in Stamford until Monday, before returning to their home in Tennessee.
